Obour is most corrupt_-Ambolley

The 'Radom Radom zo' hit maker on saturday speaking on an interview on Nhyira fm's entertainment program said Obour the President of MUSIGA is the most corrupt president in MUSIGA's history
Ambolley was speaking about his 'mafialism' comment which he said is really killing the Music industry.

He also said that though the past presidents like Sidiku Buari and Diana Hopson were corrupt, Obour's administration is most corrupt right from his insertion as president of MUSIGA.
'He was never voted for as president, he bribe people for him to be president" Ambolley added.

Kojo Antwi sacked from GHAMBRO

The Association of Music Right Owners (AMRO.GH)
, an association made of Ghanaian musicians, has
sacked highlife music maestro, Kojo Antwi, as its
representative.
“The executive and general membership of AMRO
have decided to withdraw Kojo Antwi from the
GHAMRO board because we are not satisfied with
his performance,” a letter dated March 20, 2014,
signed by C.K Morrison and J.A Adofo, chairman
and vice chairman of AMRO respectively stated.
The letter, which was copied to the Board
Chairman of GHAMRO, however did not state
reasons behind AMRO’s decision to kick out Kojo
Antwi.
C.K Morrison, chairman of AMRO in a chat with
BEATWAVES last Thursday, disclosed that the
association’s decision to sack Kojo Antwi from
GHAMRO board was based on Kojo Antwi’s failure
to furnish the leadership of the association with
information on GHAMRO’s activities, as well his
irregular attendance to meetings, among others.

WHO TOLD AYITTEY GOD CARES ABOUT BOXING? - KUBOLOR

Controversial Ghanaian musician, Wanlov da
Kubolor, has slammed boxer Ayittey Powers for
running to Prophet T.B. Joshua’s Synagogue
Church of All Nations (SCOAN) to seek
deliverance ahead of the much-anticipated bout
with Bukom Banku.
In an interview with 'News-One', the barefoot-
walking musician said he considered Ayittey
Powers as a “weak spirited” boxer who deserves
whipping from Bukom Banku.
“I would not have cared if Bukom or Powers won
till Powers went to Joshua. Now, I want Bukom
to lash him with a cane, power is a weak
spirited boxer,” he sated.
The Kubolor man wondered why the popular
boxer has suddenly turned to God for succor as
if he did not know God existed before.
Who told him God cares about boxing or soccer?”
Wanlov asked rhetorically, noting with emphasis
that “boxing and religion is not part of it.”
Ayittey Powers went through a drama-filled
deliverance session at Prophet T.B. Joshua’s
Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) in
Nigeria during one of their Sunday services.
He flew all the way from Ghana to Nigeria to
seek divine intervention before the much-
promoted fight with Bukom Banku, another
load-mouthed boxer.
That move, according to Wanlov, was a sign of
weakness on the part of powers. “I support
Bukom Banku in this bout. A boxer needs plenty
training, strength and small luck,” he added.
The bout which has been nicknamed ‘Judgement
Night’ was slated for April 18, 2014, at the Accra
Sports Stadium.
Meanwhile, another day has been set for the
fight, and according to reports, it is May 2.

Ayitey Powers 'run' from Bukom Banku

The much anticipated April 18 boxing bout
between two arch rivals in the country, Ayite
Powers and Bukom Banku will not come off.
Ayitte Powers says God has communicated to him
through his spiritual father, Nigerian Prophet, TB
Joshua, not to fight on April 18.
“As for me I want to fight,” he told Joy FM’s Super
Morning Show host Bernard Nasara Saibu, “but if
God says I cannot fight, I will not fight,” he
added. Ayitte Powers recently returned from
Nigeria where he underwent an exorcism at the
Sinagogue Church of All Nations founded by TB
Joshua.
He was said to have been delivered of demonic
possessions that have frustrated his boxing
career.
But no one foresaw him pulling out of the much
touted, unusually hyped boxing bout which
seemed to hold the potential to breathe some life
into the dormant boxing calendar in the country.
Ayitte Powers obviously shocked many and
disappointed even many more with his decision.
But all is not lost - he says he is prepared to fight
Bukom Banku any other day apart from April 18.
He cannot risk disobeying the wise counsel of his
spiritual father who took his inspiration from God.
Powers dismissed assertions that he simply
chickened out of the fight because he is afraid of
his opponent.
"I'm not afraid of Banku; I know him and I'm not
afraid of him," he stressed.
He also rejected suggestions that he could be
sued for calling off the bout. The promoters had
previously changed the date for the fight and "I
didn't sue them so why should they sue me"?

Obour hot again over cash for Artistes

Though the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA)
has often trumpeted the need for event
organizers to respect performance contracts they
sign with artistes, the Union has committed the
same blunder.
News One has gathered that several of the
artistes MUSIGA contracted to perform at the
2014 Ghana Music Week’s GH All-Star Live
Concert, have not been paid weeks after the
event, though their contract said they would be
paid exactly a week after the concert.
The Union’s President, Bice ‘Obour’ Kuffour, is in
a rather tight corner owing to the development.
Though several of the musicians have expressed
disappointment over the development, only a few
of them have spoken publicly about the matter
for fear of victimization by the Union.
One of the few vocal ones is Karl Gidiglo, manager
of dancehall sensation Stonebwoy, who said
MUSIGA had not paid his artiste.
Stonebwoy earlier threatened to boycott GMW’s
concert because the money MUSIGA offered to
pay him was not enough, but he later agreed to
perform because of the love he has for his fans.
The Union, according to Karl, was expected to pay
Stonebwoy a week after the event but “it has
been two weeks and still MUSIGA hasn’t paid my
artiste.”
“I have called the MUSIGA office twice and each
time I call, they tell me they are holding
meetings… they will get back to us. It is cool, we
are alright. We are fine with no beef, but my
problem is that we shouldn't wait for my
musician to go overboard before they (MUSIGA)
start calling us. We kept our end of the deal and
performed on the night. They don’t have to wait
for my artiste to go on social media again and
tweet about this,” Stonebwoy’s manager told
News One.
He added that he was really disappointed and
wondered how other event organizers should
behave if MUSIGA, which is supposed to
champion the welfare of musicians, acted in that
manner.
“After all this, they don’t have to let me chase
them for the money due my artiste. If the Union,
which is supposed to fight for the interest of
musicians is not paying us to become who they
want us to become, then what are we looking at.
I see MUSIGA as an organization that is supposed
to grow artistes, not to deny them what is
rightfully theirs,” he said.
Daddy Bosco, administrator of MUSIGA, declined
to comment when News One reached him over
the matter. In an uncharacteristic fashion, he said
the paper could go ahead with a one-sided story
if it so wished.
Meanwhile, News One has gathered that MUSIGA
was expecting funds from some of its sponsors to
fulfill its financial obligations to the artistes it
contracted.
The Union, which is said to be in talks with some
of the artistes, has called for calm
.

Kwaku Manu accuses Lil Win of using 'juju'

There is simmering tension between two
renowned Kumasi based actors Kwaku Manu and
Kwadjo Nkansah a.k.a Lil Win.
The two, who used to be close friends and starred
in several movies together, seem to be fighting
for supremacy and relevance on the silver screen.
Kwaku Manu also known as “Wo ye me taste!”
who just returned from a long trip abroad, has
granted a number of interviews throwing several
accusations at funny actor Lil Win.
According to Kwaku Manu, his colleague Lil Win’s
attitude has changed towards him on his return
from abroad. He claims Lil Win as distanced
himself from him and that he is definitely not the
Kwadjo Nkansah he knew some years back.
Kwaku alleged that for some time now, he had
observed that Lil Win has refused to star in any
movie in which he Kwaku Manu is involved in
citing that as the reason why Ghanaian movie
lovers do not see them together in movies
anymore.
Kwaku made a shocking revelation that Lil Win is
being ill-advised that he (Kwaku Manu) is using
‘juju’ on Lil Win so he should stay away from him,
and he believes that is the reason why Lil Win has
decided not to star in the same movie with him.
In an interview with Peacefmonline.com, he
denied using any ‘juju’ on Lil Win stating however,
that Lil Win is making it difficult for him to
communicate with him because for some time
now, he (Lil Win) has refused to answer his calls.
“I don’t have any problem with Lil Win or
anybody in this industry. He is my junior brother
and I played a major part in the beginning when
he started acting and we have been in so many
movies together. I think some people are
corrupting his mind with false information about
me but I wonder where those people advising
him against me now were in the beginning, when
he started acting”.

Lil Win reacts...

Reacting to these allegations for the first time, Lil
Win, in an exclusive interview on Neat 100.9 FM’s
“Entertainment Ghana show”, dismissed all those
allegations, stating that it’s all attempts by some
people to destroy his hard-earned reputation and
his friendship with Kwaku Manu.
Lil Win laughed off the allegations, saying “I have
no problem at all with my brother Kwaku Manu. I
don’t know if he has a problem with me. It will be
very sad for our fans to hear that Lil Win and
Kwaku Manu are not on talking terms, but that
will never happen. In this world, when you want
to listen to what people are saying, you may end
up not talking to your own friends and even your
family members”.
On the issue of ‘juju’, Lil Win said he also heard
that Kwaku Manu was going round saying he (Lil
Win) was using ‘juju’ against him, that is the
reason why he is not being cast in movies
anymore.
“I don’t use juju. It is God who has made me who
I am now, and I depend on God in all things. I
have no problem whatsoever with Kwaku Manu.”
Lil Win said he confronted Kwaku Manu when he
mentioned the issue of ‘juju’, and he accepted
and apologized. “When I heard the rumors that
he (Kwaku Manu) claims I was using juju on him,
I asked him why he said that and he apologized
and admitted that he said that, out of anger and
frustration because we don't seem to be as close
a unit as before, and that he wanted us to be
back together again as good friends”.
Lil Win further stated that its possible he might
have failed to respond to Kwaku Manu's calls
because he (Lil Win) did not know his (Kwaku
Manu's) new number, but he is not deliberately
avoiding him as being alleged.
“Maybe when he called me, I didn’t know it was
his number. I have not said anywhere that I will
not act with him. It is the producers who decide
who they want to cast in their movies”.
Asked if he would star in the same movie with
Kwaku Manu, Lil Win said “If a producer casts me
and my brother Kwaku Manu in the same movie
even today, I am ready, for all those who think
we are fighting to know that there is no problem
between us.
Lil Win said, nothing would make him disrespect
his senior brothers Agya Koo and Kwaku Manu, or
anybody in the movie industry.

Okyeame Kwame hits back at Paedae, calls his act “unfortunate”

Despite a recent declaration by the National
welfare chairman of the Musicians Union of
Ghana that the association does not recognize
Paedae and the music group R2Bees since they
are not card bearing members of the union and
do not pay dues as such had no locus to
comment on the administration of the union and
its dealings.
(We Don’t Know Paedae or R2Bees – MUSIGA
Replies Paedae’s Twitter Rants), Ghana’s rap
doctor and Public Relations Officer of the same
union, Okyeame Kwame has disclosed the BET
award nominee could have better channeled his
grievances than to go on a twitter rant.
Speaking to NY DJ on the Entertainment
Unplugged Show on Kapital Radio in Kumasi,
Okyeame Kwame stated it was quite unfortunate
to have seen a musician go on a rant on social
media when he could have simply registered the
same complaints at the MUSIGA office.
“It is really bad when musicians take to such
medium to register their displeasure when the
right steps have been put in place to report any ill
feeling. The best an artist with problems can do is
to file a complaint at the MUSIGA office where he
would later be called for deliberations and perfect
solutions would be arrived at.
You don’t just go public with your problems. I
don’t think members of the Ghana Bar
Association or the Ghana Medical Practitioners
Association would individually go public with their
grievances until the unions collectively decide to
do so or until members believe the union body is
not functioning enough”
Asked if Paedae or R2Bees as a music group had
registered as members of MUSIGA, the PRO
disclosed it would be a lie to confirm or deny as
he could not make out all members of the union.
Addressing royalty issues raised by Paedae in his
twitter rant, Okyeame Kwame disclosed MUSIGA
was not responsible for collecting royalties for
musicians although the president of the union
served as a member of the body responsible for
it. He therefore advised fellow musicians to
research before accusing bodies wrongly.

Paragliding site not ready for Kwahu Easter celebration

With exactly four weeks away from the much
anticipated Kwahu Easter celebrations, a study
Flex newspaper conducted in some Kwahu
districts has revealed that one of the attraction
centres of the Easter celebrations is not ready and
there is no sign of its preparation.
Our team of correspondents including
entertainment radio presenters with Life fm in
Nkawkaw has reported that there is no activity or
preparation at Atibie where the Paragliding
activities take place. With pictures to support their
report, the team of observers have revealed that
the Paragliding grounds is still rough, the road
leading to the grounds is not cleared thoroughly
for motorist and there was no official
representative there to provide answers to their
questions.
The team made up Osarfo Kwabeng Emmanuel
popularly known as (OKE) and Emmanuel Logah
both of Life 98.7 fm were at the Paragliding site
last week and the only person they encountered
there was one security person, who gave his
name as Tetteh. According to Tetteh, he has been
keeping the place tidy as he weeds the
surroundings himself anytime he finds the place
bushy.
Among other things, these were some of the
issues they raised in their observation. “Aside
Tetteh`s manual weeding around where his
security post is, there has not been any clearing
around the place. Even as it stands, two vehicles
cannot drive pass each other on the road leading
to the site as one would have to park to give way
to the other to drive smoothly.
The minister of Road and Transport was here to
inspect the road for work to be done, but nothing
has started yet. The road to the site is also very
dusty and not friendly to motorist so we are
appealing to stakeholders to intervene as quickly
as possible to make the celebration a worthwhile
one. Often times, people go the Paragliding site
and they become disappointed because of harsh
conditions. Even the main road on the Atibie
mountains is not in the best of shape so they
should consider working on that one too” our
respondents filed this report.
Attempts to get Mr Ben Anane Nsiah who
happens to be the Manager of special events at
the Tourism Ministry proved futile as his contact
number could not be reached as of the time we
were preparing for press.

Sonnie Badu In Trouble!

UK-based Ghanaian gospel artiste, Sonnie
Badu, is on the verge of having his song,
‘Wonder God’ being scrapped from the
Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
Sonnie Badu’s song ‘Wonder God’ was
nominated for ‘Gospel Song of the Year’, and
‘Best Male Vocalist of the Year’ for Sonny’s
vocal delivery on the song. Investigations reveal
that the song was officially released online on
6th November 2012 and the video of the song
was subsequently uploaded on YouTube on
11th October 2012.
The official dates under review for the
Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is 1st January
2013 to 31st December 2013 – which means,
‘Wonder God’ does not qualify. The VGMA
Board is expected to meet and deliberate on
this evidence and is supposed to act on it as
soon as possible.
In other bizarre news, Sonnie, who is said to
have cast a slur on Ghanaian gospel music and
its purveyors a couple of years ago; is being
accused of maligning the importance of the
VGMAs in connection with the local-based
gospel artistes.
After attaining six nominations, including one in
the topmost ‘Artiste of the Year’ category,
Sonnie has been accused of vilifying Ghanaian
gospel artistes and their involvement in the
VGMAs in a recently-granted interview on
Rainbow 87.5FM.
Sonnie Badu was said to have stated some
weeks ago on the ‘Gh. Entertainment’ Show
that the Ghana Music Awards is only meant for
local artistes and since he’s an international
artiste, he does not see himself as being part
of the Awards.
When Sonnie Badu was contacted, he rebutted
such claims being attributed to him. “I would
not like to be misquoted again. It was a phone
conversation on Rainbow Radio where the host
asked me why I have not got any nominations
thus far in the VGMAs, and I jokingly responded
that , maybe, my not being nominated was due
to the fact that I don’t reside in Ghana. It’s a
joke I shared,” he explained.
Commenting on the news of his first-time
nominations, Sonnie said he was informed by
his manager and deemed it a great honour to
be part of the Awards. “It’s always a great
feeling when your works are recognized
anywhere in the world, so all glory goes to
God,” he articulated.
Sonnie Badu becomes only the third gospel
artiste in 14 years to make an appearance in
the category for the topmost prize of the
Awards after the likes of Kwaku Gyasi and No
Tribe made appearances but failed to win.
“Being the only gospel artiste in the ‘Artiste of
the Year’ category is such a great honour. It
feels like I am representing my fellow brothers
and sisters so it’s Team Gospel against the rest
and once again, glory goes to God.”
Sonnie said that, even in the said interview, he
tipped fellow gospel artiste Cwesi Oteng to
annex some awards this year. “I am a big fan
of Cwesi Oteng’s songwriting ability and his
musical skills, plus he is a great friend so when
the host asked who I wanted to win, I
mentioned Cwesi Oteng,” he elucidated.

Stop depending on politicians - Wanlov advises

Wanlov De Kubolor was on XFm sometime with
his brother Mensa. The two in the studio talked
about many issues concerning the country
especially the economic affairs.
Before then, he had said on the mid-morning
show ‘Brunch2lunch’ on Radio Univers with Bra
Chef that NPP and NDC are playing table tennis
with Ghanaians. One party will come and do
nothing for the country likewise the other.
According to a report by XfmNewsCenter written
by David Cudjoe,
Controversial Ghanaian Afro-pop musician, Wanlov
Kubolor, who is notorious for criticising politicians
in the country, has released another shocker,
saying that Ghanaians lack the spirit of
anticipation Wanlov classified Africans especially
those from the Western part of the continent, as
greedy and selfish people who do not think about
the well-being of their countries.
He said Americans go an extra mile to serve their
country even if they gain less but West Africans
always think of their ‘stomach’ first.
Speaking with Kwaku David on Xfm’s Xpress
Breakfast Show, the artiste elaborated on a
comment he passed which was recently
published. In that article, he said the New
Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic
Congress (NDC) are playing table tennis with
Ghanaians.
Explaining the earlier remark, he said most
people understood him when he made that
comment because these two parties have been in
power for decades but always blaming each other
rather than solving the problems of this country.
The award winning Afro-pop musician said things
seem not to be getting better because politicians
are doing nothing to improve the living conditions
of the ordinary Ghanaian who vote for them.
He disclosed how disappointed he was about the
way recent politicians handle the affairs of this
country adding that there is no essential reason
to vote for anyone.
“When I’m here I vote but I don’t think the voting
is doing anything for us because if you vote for
one person or the other person, they are all
coming to do the same thing. I will only vote
when I think there is a party doing something for
me,” he said.
The recent crisis confronting the country was
described by the artiste as an unfortunate
situation and also advised Ghanaians especially
the youth to stop depending on politicians.

Majid Michel shares marriage experience with newly married Paul Okoye

The Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Africa
Movie Academy Awards in 2012, Majid Michel has
advised the newly married couple Paul Okoye of
P-square fame and his wife Anita Isama on how
to live their life as couple.
He touched on advantages on marriage and what
to do to make their marriage more beautiful.
Paul and Anita had their traditional wedding
yesterday, March 22 Port Harcourt, Nigeria
Read an unedited post by actor born by Lebanese
father and a Ghanaian mother below.
Ok I hope my advices work. I love being married.
It’s so great to find one special person you want
to annoy for the rest of your life. For two people
in a marriage to live together day after day is
unquestionably the one miracle the Vatican has
overlooked. One advantage of marriage is that,
when you fall out of love with him or he falls out
of love with you, it keeps you together until you
fall in again. A good marriage would be between
a blind wife and a deaf husband. A successful
marriage requires falling in love many times,
always with the same person. There is so little
difference between husbands you might as well
keep the first. Before marriage, a man will lie
awake all night thinking about something you
said; after marriage, he’ll fall asleep before you
finish saying it. My wife and I have the secret to
making a marriage last. Two times a week, we go
to a nice restaurant, a little wine, good food…..
She goes Tuesdays, I go Fridays. Just kidn**lol. To
avoid mistakes and regrets, always consult your
wife before engaging in a flirtation. The man, who
says his wife can’t take a joke, forgets that she
took him. Whenever you’re wrong admit it;
whenever you’re right shut up. The secret of a
happy marriage remains a secret. We have the
greatest prenuptial agreement in the world. It’s
called love.
Well said Majid.

HighGrade Family wants Ghana Music Awards nominees list reviewed

Although many have complained of the nominees
list released for the VodafoneGhana Music
Awards, Samini Music and HighGrade Family is
first to call for a review of the list. Check out the
press statement from HighGradeFamily asking for
a review of the Ghana Music Awards:
Over the years, there have been numerous
controversies surrounding Charter House/Ghana
MusicAwards, the constitution of the board and
consequent nominations thereof towards the
annual Ghana Music Awards; all past sponsors are
herein acknowledged.
However, of particular interest is the seemingly
growing trend ofConflict of Interest that plaques
the Board and its decisions, with traces to specific
individuals such as Mark Okraku Mantey and the
growing aspersions in the definition of categories,
who qualifies and per what standards of criteria
are followed per norms as pertains in other
jurisdictions with emphasis on our very own turf.
Of particular concern is as per a quote by Enoch
Sarpong, a showbiz critic on facebook { Apparently
Mark Okraku Mantey’s artiste KUMI GUITAR isn't
a NEW ARTISTE... His FIRST VERSION of “break into
two” song was released 2years ago….and was
produced by SUGARTONE..}
Questions need to be asked:
As a private entity with due regards for the
Ghanaian Laws, is Mark Okraku a manager/
affiliated to an artiste known as “Kumi Guitar”
and does this constitute a conflict of interest?
Are the guidelines for nominations particularly
“New Artiste of the year” explicitly clear to
warrant an exclusion of Kofi Kinaata in same?
NB: the Number of shows performed by Kofi
Kinaata, an artiste of HighGradeFamily, Interviews
including on Dj Blacks Weekend shows… Airplay of
his various songs et al as against the other
categorized in “New Artiste of the year”
Per the assertion by Enoch Sarpong (verifiable)
that Kumi Guitar first released/promoted a song 2
years ago constitute a wrongful categorization of
the said artiste and therefore requires a review of
nomination(s) given the level of public agitation?
Will Charter House and the VGMA Board for the
first time, recall their decision, address and
reannounce categories and nominations
particularly those in question, for us” excluding
Kofi Kinaata our Artiste from the New Artiste of
the year category)?
Will Charter House and its allied Bodies act on
Mark Okraku Mantey’s abuse of conflict of
interest provisions as affecting a general body and
its decisions by excusing him from any further
activities; By explaining the criteria on
nominations for New Artiste thereby excluding our
Artiste “Kofi Kinaata”; Will all parties consider
brand effect on supervising a clear case of conflict
of interest(legal issue) involving Mark Okraku
Mantey, member of the VGMA board, whose self
glorification seems to make him a touch not in
Ghana Music Industry and on what basis he does
so?
We will require answers, as these will go a long
way to maintain some credibility in the Annual
Event that highlights the best of Ghanaian music.
The Media must help set things right.

Kyeiwaa accused of disgracing Ghana.

Ghanaian local actress, Rose Mensah popularly
known as Kyeiwaa has been accused by Isaac
Rockson, Public Relations Officer for Kumawood
and Akoben Movie Awards of disgracing Ghana.
At a press conference held in Kumasi by Mr. Paul
Adjei of Paul Gee Productions on 6th March
for the press to interact with Patience Ozokwor
aka Mama G, who was in Kumasi to shoot a
movie, Mama Africa; Rose Mensah who was
addressing the press said it is a dream come true
for her, starring in the same movie with the
multiple award-winning Nigerian actress. She said
many people have been questioning her ability to
act with English speaking actors because of her
inability to speak the queen’s language.
The comic actress stated that due to the prayers
of her fans, God has been good to her and the
doors have opened for her to work with one of
the best actresses in Africa.
“People were crying for me asking how I was
going to act with this woman who has featured in
over 200 movies because of her experience. I
thank God for this dream come true because now
people will be surprised when they see how I
acted with this her.
This statement made by Kyeiwaa was described
by the PRO of Kumawood and Akoben Movie
Awards, Isaac Rockson as disdain of integrity.
According to him, “why should Kyeiwaa wait for
an international actress to come to Ghana and
work with her before she realizes she is good for
the international market? If her values and works
do not lift her to that international standard,
what will Ozorkwo’s one movie do for her?”
These questions by him distracted the press
conference hosted at Ceeta-kel Hotel in Asokwa
for some minutes as the media present kept
discussing the importance of his criticisms. Dave
Hammer, MC for the night said those questions
raised by Rockson should be asked when radio
and TV stations are reviewing entertainment
stories but not when they convened to interact
with Patience Ozokwor, the Enugu State born
actress.
Despite the MCs effort to prevent answers for Mr.
Rockson’s questions, the director for the yet-to-
be-released movie, Mama Africa, Director Bentum
aka Director 1 said everybody works to meet
some people in their lives to realize their career is
growing.
“There are popular footballers in Ghana, but they
all dream to play for an international team
someday. Kyeiwaa is now happy that she is going
international because she is working with
international actors. What we know is that most
at times is the English actors who work with them,
but now the Kumawood actors have had the
opportunity to work with them as well. She is
happy that, she being an illiterate has had the
opportunity to work with glamour actress because
it rarely happens.” Director Bentum answered.
Isaac Rockson who spoke to Ziofelix.com
complained bitterly that “why should you disgrace
Ghana to foreigners because you are working for
money?”
‘Mama Africa ‘is Paul Gee produced movie which
features Patience Ozokwor, Kwadwo Nkansah Lil
Win, Akrobeto, Maame Serwaa, Rose Mensah and
other Kumawood actors.

Ghana is losing its sense of identity - David Dontoh

Popular Ghanaian actor, David Dontoh says the
creative arts industry is gasping for breath
because; the nation has not taken the industry
"very seriously".
According to him, the once vibrant and organised
industry is now experiencing gradual and
continuous loss of patronage because there are
no laws regulating it.
"As a nation, we've not taken ourselves very
seriously," David Dontoh stated on the Super
Morning Show on Joy FM, Friday, March 7, 2014.
"If we really consider creative arts and the
entertainment industry [as] an industry for real,
then there should be a policy that really regulates
it; directs it and gives it a certain sense of
belonging such that people would respect it," he
stated.
Known for the roles he played in very popular
movies including; The Dead (2010), Deadly Voyage
(1996) and Heritage Africa (1989), David Dontoh
expressed regret that many professionals were
forced to divert from the arts and entertainment
industry, for lack of support.
"In many countries, people in this industry
happen to be the richest but it is the opposite
when you come to Ghana because, we don't have
any mechanisms in protecting the arts industry in
Ghana. We don't have any social security; we
don't have any policy that controls what we do
[and] we don't have protection against
copyrights".
Apparently dejected, he said Ghana, which is
preparing to celebrate a centenary of
conventional theatre next year, is missing the
opportunity to use the arts to shape norms,
values and ethics in the society. He fears of
serious consequences if nothing is done about the
situation.
"If people are not cultured, they are not
disciplined, and that is where we have trouble
controlling them; we have trouble ruling them...If
you have a people that are unbridled, you can't
control them [and] you can't harness them in any
way [then] you must as well give up the ghost
that I've lost it!"
Letting it go
Contributing to the discussion, renowned
playwright, Uncle Ebo Whyte said there was
nothing wrong with some societal values giving
way to foreign ones. "Any value that has been
eroded is worth eroding" because, times have
changed and so must we."
"Times change but society must evolve...Yes, we
know we are Ghanaians but the world is changing.
Let us evolve; let's accept influences; then that
will let us grow as a people," Uncle Ebo Whyte
added.
But David Dontoh said care must be taken in
giving way to foreign cultures. The Ghanaian
culture risks being extinct, he added.
"Culture is dynamic, Ghana is not an island;
certain things must change but as a people we
must have an identity. If your development takes
a trajectory that avoids your history [then] you get
lost in what is called 'popular culture'...What
happens is that the basis of your economy
collapses because, your taste now becomes
popular taste.
"...At the end of the day what you'll be telling
yourself is that as a civilisation you want to
dissolve into history [extinct]," Mr. Dontoh
cautioned.

WhatsApp C.E.O comends Ghanaians

Jan Koum, Co-founder and Chief Executive
Officer of Whatsapp, the social messaging
service recently acquired by Facebook for US
$19billion, has commended the country for its
innovative approach to using its mobile
application .
Mr. Koum, making his first public appearance at
the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona after
the acquisition by Facebook, was narrating
WhatsApp’s journey since being founded five
years ago.
Citing how useful the application has been to the
over-450 million subscribers around the globe,
Mr. Koum singled out Ghana as a country that is
using the product in a way he and Brian Acton
— the other Co-founder — never envisaged
when they established the application.
According to him, though he had learnt of
several uses of the service from across the
globe, mails he had from Ghana that the
university students are using the WhatsApp
messenger to hold discussions with their
lecturers, and even compare notes among
themselves in a group, left him astounded.
Mr. Koum added that such application of his
messenger, particularly, shows how important
and indispensable the service has been since it
was established.
On the future of the messenger, Mr. Koum said
Whatsapp intends to introduce voice over its
platform by summer as already being executed
by BBM talk, Kakao talk, Viber etc. This means
that with a simple data connection, WhatsApp
users may be able to place phone calls to each
other at minimal cost.
Already, this announcement has triggered
apprehension among some industry analysts
who are wondering how this will impact on
mobile operators’ revenue generation from voice
services.
However, CEO of Millicom International Cellular
S.A., Hans-Holger Albrecht, said operators are
indeed preparing adequately these
developments — and are excited about the fact
that these Gong Jianzhong innovations or OTT
(Over-the-top) players are also increasing data
usage of mobile subscribers, and operators are
aware voice will become free in the long-term.
“So there is a dire need to grow infrastructure
with the world requiring about US$1.5trillion to
meet the upcoming demand of data by 2020
with the introduction of budget (low-cost) US$50
smartphones.
Data from the country’s sector regulator,
National Communications Authority, indicated
that the number of mobile Internet subscribers
reached the 10million mark last year, a figure it
described as “average”.
The data market, which is considered as the
next frontier for network operators, grew by
19.5 percent last year from 8.6 million access
lines in January to 10.3 million at the end of
December — putting the rate of data
penetration at almost 40% in a population of 26
million.
