The management of Arik Air has tendered an
apology to passengers of the unfortunate
incident that occurred on March 31, 2014,
where the air conditioning system of their
aircraft stopped working for some minutes,
which caused a mini protest by passengers.
In a statement made available to
Nigeriafilms.com by the airline, it was stated the
management of Arik regrets the ugly scenario
and tendered its unconditional apology.
Below is the full statement;
“To all guest who travelled on flight W3107 (from
Lagos, Nigeria to JFK, New York) on 31st March
2014, Arik Air offers an unconditional apology,
for the inconvenience and discomfort caused by
both the 55 minute delayed flight departure and
the failure of the airplane’s air-conditioning
system prior to said departure.
“In this regard, the experienced schedule delay
was a result of complications related to the
cargo loading process as managed by Arik Air’s
contracted ground-handling agent.
Unfortunately, whilst efforts were rightly being
expended to overcome the cargo loading
difficulties, the backup air conditioning unit
(which should have been provided by our
ground handling agent) was declared
unserviceable and thus unavailable for use.
Upon resolution of the cargo loading difficulties,
the air-conditioning system was finally restored
as the aircraft prepared for immediate
departure under its own engine power.
“Arik Air, and its Management, acknowledges
that the handling of the situation on board was
less than satisfactory and falls well short of the
high standards of service that its esteemed
travelling guests have come to expect of us (and
which we demand of ourselves). Arik Air’s
Management wishes to assure our esteemed
guests that the necessary remedial measures
have been initiated to prevent the repetition of
such an incident to the extent possible/
controllable.
“Arik Air is committed to providing a safe and
comfortable air transport service to every guest
and on every journey. Arik Air wishes to thank
all guests who endured this inconvenience
patiently, despite both the trying circumstance
and the unfortunate exhibition of aggression, to
both people and property, by a minority of
unruly passengers onboard the aircraft.
“Arik Air values, greatly, its relationship with her
guest. Hence, to all the affected guests, please
note that we intend to pursue the restoration of
the trust and faith vested in us by your good-
selves. In this respect, Arik Air shall be
contacting each affected guest on flight W3107
31st March 2014, to express these sentiments
(and seek such restitution of trust) individually.
“Once again, please accept our humble and
sincere apologies. You and your patronage are
dear to us. We exist to serve you and we look
forward to doing so again in the near future.”

Yaw Sakyi threatened with death
After recently losing showbiz personalities like
Ronnie Coaches, Dr Paa Bobo, Fennec Okyere, the
ever-smiling host of The Rundown on TV Africa
and leading basketball promoter in Ghana Yaw
Sakyi is reported to have been threatened by the
current SRC President of GIMPA Benjamin
Essuman.
Information gathered so far indicates that Yaw
Sakyi, who is also a student of GIMPA, has
indicated his intentions to contest the upcoming
elections but the Essuman-Benjamin led
administration have vowed not to allow him to
contest because he is reported to have promised
students to look into the books of the SRC when
he becomes the president.
Our sources indicate the wide support for Yaw
Sakyi which can make him the next president and
that the current leadership is against. The
President and his executives summoned Yaw
Sakyi to a meeting 2 months ago for visiting some
classes to interact with students but made some
mistakes in the spelling of his name and class, so
Yaw Sakyi wrote back saying he is not the person
in question.
This angered the SRC President who then shouted
on top of his voice and was allegedly to have said
that, he was going to send Yaw Sakyi to his early
grave. “He thinks he is smart. He knows he is the
one we are referring to but want to use
technicalities”, he was allegedly to have said.
Opinions sampled revealed that Yaw Sakyi has
been calling on the SRC to account for GHc223,
155 (Two Hundred and Twenty-Three Thousand,
One Hundred and Fifty-Five Ghana Cedis)
students fund used by the leadership but
students can’t see anything for it.
The recent story is that the SRC took GH60, 000
(Sixty Thousand Ghana Cedis) from management
without the knowledge of the General Assembly
which is the body to approve such monies.
These monies they were told were to be used for
the production of diaries and pens for students in
January 2014. The SRC President has reported
that he paid someone GH45, 000 (Forty-Five
Thousand) to produce these diaries but can’t find
the person.
Many students are enraged over this matter and
plan to demand the SRC to produce these funds
and others alleged to have been spent.
The SRC has issued a statement this morning
saying the security agencies are looking for the
person they paid the monies to and have asked
students not to believe what people opposed to
their administration are saying.
What is not clear is whether they will call a
Students’ Forum to respond to questions from
students regarding how their monies have been
used for.
This year’s election has a Nigerian businessman
Mr. Emmanuel Okesson, the CEO of City Lights,
who is running for the second time after losing to
the current President last year and others.
When contacted, he
declined to comment on the issue saying he will
meet with management and get back to us.

want to be affiliated with a Keeping Up with the

Smith, Prince, Karl Lagerfeld, Barack and

“Toothless MUSIGA”, Kwabena Kwabena jabs Obour & his team
Kwabena Kwabena has told enewsgh.com what he
feels is wrong with the current MUSIGA set up
headed by fellow musician Bice Osei Kuffour
(Obour).
“There is no industry,” he says.
“It is crazy when you are an artist and you talk
like this and people take it from the music politics
point of view. I don’t have any interest in going
near any music politics because I have about 15
years of active music in me I still want to pursue.
“But there are certain people who should make
sure whatever we create yields benefits to us,
and these are the people in the helm of affairs.
The people managing the structures don’t even
understand what they are doing. I don’t mean to
criticize anyone but these guys are not doing
great as long as far as governing the music
industry is concerned.”
Still on promotional rounds for his Daakye album,
the talented singer says:
“Ask any musician what they get from doing a hit
record apart from being famous and being called
a musician, so if you have a leader and he is not
thinking about putting money in the pocket of the
hit maker then what are we doing as a group? It’s
simple; you ask yourself what the other
developed countries are doing to put monies in
their artist’s pocket. Why won’t you consult their
expertise, I heard two million Ghana Cedis was
giving to a company to check our contribution to
the nation’s GDP. How does that benefit the
musician?”
Kwabena Kwabena, who has been nominated
seven times at this year’s Ghana Music Awards is
however hopeful the body would get around the
any challenges the sector faces.
“First you fix the money collection system from
the media houses and try and control how people
steal the music, then after that you go and
research and you will even get a handsome figure
to show government. If we had checked the
systems and shown good figures, we would have
earned the respect of the government more,” he
adds.
“Put money in the musicians pocket through his
work. If I had two million, I will go to the UK and
consult them on how they collect the revenues for
the work the musicians do, buy the software that
will monitor the systems for us, then seek the
government to help us make it mandatory for
every media outlet to be on that monitoring
scheme.
“We are in a technology era and we are still
complaining about things like this, nobody cares
about nobody. How long can an artist survive on
his show money? If you are an artist, you think
about how you can create your own team to help
you build and move your career from one point
to other and just hope it changes. I feel we can
do due diligence to our selves, in life the moment
you think selfless and think about achievements,
that’s when you begin to head somewhere.
“Our main problem is we don’t understand our
time and what to do with our time. That’s why I
was happy to see a young man become the
president and unfortunately things are yet to
change. Every leader should have a vision
everyone is following. That is why we submit to
you and call you president. In the ancient world
it’s the brave ones that got the chance to the
throne. Leadership is more about action. I pray
someone has a change of heart or we get
someone who will change things.”
On how he managed to make four award-winning
albums even with all the challenges he talked
about, he revealed:
“I have never been on a label and I have always
been on my own, Kontihene helped me as an
artist but we didn’t sign any papers for a label
kind of thing. I paddled my own boat from then, I
didn’t intentionally plan to be on my own. As a
matter of fact I had a lot of trouble impressing
anybody from the beginning of my career, after
the success of “Aso” I decided to steer my music
my own way because anyone who approached me
afterwards were people who had turned me down
in the past.
“And I just believed if they didn’t believe in me
before I did “Aso”, then; there was no need to be
with them after finding my way out from back-up
singing to a hit album. I knew also everyone who
approached me after “Aso” became a hit and I
didn’t believe they had something new to offer.
The people who believed in you from day one are
the people you should hold on to.”
