Stop depending on politicians - Wanlov advises

Wanlov De Kubolor was on XFm sometime with
his brother Mensa. The two in the studio talked
about many issues concerning the country
especially the economic affairs.
Before then, he had said on the mid-morning
show ‘Brunch2lunch’ on Radio Univers with Bra
Chef that NPP and NDC are playing table tennis
with Ghanaians. One party will come and do
nothing for the country likewise the other.
According to a report by XfmNewsCenter written
by David Cudjoe,
Controversial Ghanaian Afro-pop musician, Wanlov
Kubolor, who is notorious for criticising politicians
in the country, has released another shocker,
saying that Ghanaians lack the spirit of
anticipation Wanlov classified Africans especially
those from the Western part of the continent, as
greedy and selfish people who do not think about
the well-being of their countries.
He said Americans go an extra mile to serve their
country even if they gain less but West Africans
always think of their ‘stomach’ first.
Speaking with Kwaku David on Xfm’s Xpress
Breakfast Show, the artiste elaborated on a
comment he passed which was recently
published. In that article, he said the New
Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic
Congress (NDC) are playing table tennis with
Ghanaians.
Explaining the earlier remark, he said most
people understood him when he made that
comment because these two parties have been in
power for decades but always blaming each other
rather than solving the problems of this country.
The award winning Afro-pop musician said things
seem not to be getting better because politicians
are doing nothing to improve the living conditions
of the ordinary Ghanaian who vote for them.
He disclosed how disappointed he was about the
way recent politicians handle the affairs of this
country adding that there is no essential reason
to vote for anyone.
“When I’m here I vote but I don’t think the voting
is doing anything for us because if you vote for
one person or the other person, they are all
coming to do the same thing. I will only vote
when I think there is a party doing something for
me,” he said.
The recent crisis confronting the country was
described by the artiste as an unfortunate
situation and also advised Ghanaians especially
the youth to stop depending on politicians.

Majid Michel shares marriage experience with newly married Paul Okoye

The Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Africa
Movie Academy Awards in 2012, Majid Michel has
advised the newly married couple Paul Okoye of
P-square fame and his wife Anita Isama on how
to live their life as couple.
He touched on advantages on marriage and what
to do to make their marriage more beautiful.
Paul and Anita had their traditional wedding
yesterday, March 22 Port Harcourt, Nigeria
Read an unedited post by actor born by Lebanese
father and a Ghanaian mother below.
Ok I hope my advices work. I love being married.
It’s so great to find one special person you want
to annoy for the rest of your life. For two people
in a marriage to live together day after day is
unquestionably the one miracle the Vatican has
overlooked. One advantage of marriage is that,
when you fall out of love with him or he falls out
of love with you, it keeps you together until you
fall in again. A good marriage would be between
a blind wife and a deaf husband. A successful
marriage requires falling in love many times,
always with the same person. There is so little
difference between husbands you might as well
keep the first. Before marriage, a man will lie
awake all night thinking about something you
said; after marriage, he’ll fall asleep before you
finish saying it. My wife and I have the secret to
making a marriage last. Two times a week, we go
to a nice restaurant, a little wine, good food…..
She goes Tuesdays, I go Fridays. Just kidn**lol. To
avoid mistakes and regrets, always consult your
wife before engaging in a flirtation. The man, who
says his wife can’t take a joke, forgets that she
took him. Whenever you’re wrong admit it;
whenever you’re right shut up. The secret of a
happy marriage remains a secret. We have the
greatest prenuptial agreement in the world. It’s
called love.
Well said Majid.

HighGrade Family wants Ghana Music Awards nominees list reviewed

Although many have complained of the nominees
list released for the VodafoneGhana Music
Awards, Samini Music and HighGrade Family is
first to call for a review of the list. Check out the
press statement from HighGradeFamily asking for
a review of the Ghana Music Awards:
Over the years, there have been numerous
controversies surrounding Charter House/Ghana
MusicAwards, the constitution of the board and
consequent nominations thereof towards the
annual Ghana Music Awards; all past sponsors are
herein acknowledged.
However, of particular interest is the seemingly
growing trend ofConflict of Interest that plaques
the Board and its decisions, with traces to specific
individuals such as Mark Okraku Mantey and the
growing aspersions in the definition of categories,
who qualifies and per what standards of criteria
are followed per norms as pertains in other
jurisdictions with emphasis on our very own turf.
Of particular concern is as per a quote by Enoch
Sarpong, a showbiz critic on facebook { Apparently
Mark Okraku Mantey’s artiste KUMI GUITAR isn't
a NEW ARTISTE... His FIRST VERSION of “break into
two” song was released 2years ago….and was
produced by SUGARTONE..}
Questions need to be asked:
As a private entity with due regards for the
Ghanaian Laws, is Mark Okraku a manager/
affiliated to an artiste known as “Kumi Guitar”
and does this constitute a conflict of interest?
Are the guidelines for nominations particularly
“New Artiste of the year” explicitly clear to
warrant an exclusion of Kofi Kinaata in same?
NB: the Number of shows performed by Kofi
Kinaata, an artiste of HighGradeFamily, Interviews
including on Dj Blacks Weekend shows… Airplay of
his various songs et al as against the other
categorized in “New Artiste of the year”
Per the assertion by Enoch Sarpong (verifiable)
that Kumi Guitar first released/promoted a song 2
years ago constitute a wrongful categorization of
the said artiste and therefore requires a review of
nomination(s) given the level of public agitation?
Will Charter House and the VGMA Board for the
first time, recall their decision, address and
reannounce categories and nominations
particularly those in question, for us” excluding
Kofi Kinaata our Artiste from the New Artiste of
the year category)?
Will Charter House and its allied Bodies act on
Mark Okraku Mantey’s abuse of conflict of
interest provisions as affecting a general body and
its decisions by excusing him from any further
activities; By explaining the criteria on
nominations for New Artiste thereby excluding our
Artiste “Kofi Kinaata”; Will all parties consider
brand effect on supervising a clear case of conflict
of interest(legal issue) involving Mark Okraku
Mantey, member of the VGMA board, whose self
glorification seems to make him a touch not in
Ghana Music Industry and on what basis he does
so?
We will require answers, as these will go a long
way to maintain some credibility in the Annual
Event that highlights the best of Ghanaian music.
The Media must help set things right.

Kyeiwaa accused of disgracing Ghana.

Ghanaian local actress, Rose Mensah popularly
known as Kyeiwaa has been accused by Isaac
Rockson, Public Relations Officer for Kumawood
and Akoben Movie Awards of disgracing Ghana.
At a press conference held in Kumasi by Mr. Paul
Adjei of Paul Gee Productions on 6th March
for the press to interact with Patience Ozokwor
aka Mama G, who was in Kumasi to shoot a
movie, Mama Africa; Rose Mensah who was
addressing the press said it is a dream come true
for her, starring in the same movie with the
multiple award-winning Nigerian actress. She said
many people have been questioning her ability to
act with English speaking actors because of her
inability to speak the queen’s language.
The comic actress stated that due to the prayers
of her fans, God has been good to her and the
doors have opened for her to work with one of
the best actresses in Africa.
“People were crying for me asking how I was
going to act with this woman who has featured in
over 200 movies because of her experience. I
thank God for this dream come true because now
people will be surprised when they see how I
acted with this her.
This statement made by Kyeiwaa was described
by the PRO of Kumawood and Akoben Movie
Awards, Isaac Rockson as disdain of integrity.
According to him, “why should Kyeiwaa wait for
an international actress to come to Ghana and
work with her before she realizes she is good for
the international market? If her values and works
do not lift her to that international standard,
what will Ozorkwo’s one movie do for her?”
These questions by him distracted the press
conference hosted at Ceeta-kel Hotel in Asokwa
for some minutes as the media present kept
discussing the importance of his criticisms. Dave
Hammer, MC for the night said those questions
raised by Rockson should be asked when radio
and TV stations are reviewing entertainment
stories but not when they convened to interact
with Patience Ozokwor, the Enugu State born
actress.
Despite the MCs effort to prevent answers for Mr.
Rockson’s questions, the director for the yet-to-
be-released movie, Mama Africa, Director Bentum
aka Director 1 said everybody works to meet
some people in their lives to realize their career is
growing.
“There are popular footballers in Ghana, but they
all dream to play for an international team
someday. Kyeiwaa is now happy that she is going
international because she is working with
international actors. What we know is that most
at times is the English actors who work with them,
but now the Kumawood actors have had the
opportunity to work with them as well. She is
happy that, she being an illiterate has had the
opportunity to work with glamour actress because
it rarely happens.” Director Bentum answered.
Isaac Rockson who spoke to Ziofelix.com
complained bitterly that “why should you disgrace
Ghana to foreigners because you are working for
money?”
‘Mama Africa ‘is Paul Gee produced movie which
features Patience Ozokwor, Kwadwo Nkansah Lil
Win, Akrobeto, Maame Serwaa, Rose Mensah and
other Kumawood actors.

Ghana is losing its sense of identity - David Dontoh

Popular Ghanaian actor, David Dontoh says the
creative arts industry is gasping for breath
because; the nation has not taken the industry
"very seriously".
According to him, the once vibrant and organised
industry is now experiencing gradual and
continuous loss of patronage because there are
no laws regulating it.
"As a nation, we've not taken ourselves very
seriously," David Dontoh stated on the Super
Morning Show on Joy FM, Friday, March 7, 2014.
"If we really consider creative arts and the
entertainment industry [as] an industry for real,
then there should be a policy that really regulates
it; directs it and gives it a certain sense of
belonging such that people would respect it," he
stated.
Known for the roles he played in very popular
movies including; The Dead (2010), Deadly Voyage
(1996) and Heritage Africa (1989), David Dontoh
expressed regret that many professionals were
forced to divert from the arts and entertainment
industry, for lack of support.
"In many countries, people in this industry
happen to be the richest but it is the opposite
when you come to Ghana because, we don't have
any mechanisms in protecting the arts industry in
Ghana. We don't have any social security; we
don't have any policy that controls what we do
[and] we don't have protection against
copyrights".
Apparently dejected, he said Ghana, which is
preparing to celebrate a centenary of
conventional theatre next year, is missing the
opportunity to use the arts to shape norms,
values and ethics in the society. He fears of
serious consequences if nothing is done about the
situation.
"If people are not cultured, they are not
disciplined, and that is where we have trouble
controlling them; we have trouble ruling them...If
you have a people that are unbridled, you can't
control them [and] you can't harness them in any
way [then] you must as well give up the ghost
that I've lost it!"
Letting it go
Contributing to the discussion, renowned
playwright, Uncle Ebo Whyte said there was
nothing wrong with some societal values giving
way to foreign ones. "Any value that has been
eroded is worth eroding" because, times have
changed and so must we."
"Times change but society must evolve...Yes, we
know we are Ghanaians but the world is changing.
Let us evolve; let's accept influences; then that
will let us grow as a people," Uncle Ebo Whyte
added.
But David Dontoh said care must be taken in
giving way to foreign cultures. The Ghanaian
culture risks being extinct, he added.
"Culture is dynamic, Ghana is not an island;
certain things must change but as a people we
must have an identity. If your development takes
a trajectory that avoids your history [then] you get
lost in what is called 'popular culture'...What
happens is that the basis of your economy
collapses because, your taste now becomes
popular taste.
"...At the end of the day what you'll be telling
yourself is that as a civilisation you want to
dissolve into history [extinct]," Mr. Dontoh
cautioned.

WhatsApp C.E.O comends Ghanaians

Jan Koum, Co-founder and Chief Executive
Officer of Whatsapp, the social messaging
service recently acquired by Facebook for US
$19billion, has commended the country for its
innovative approach to using its mobile
application .
Mr. Koum, making his first public appearance at
the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona after
the acquisition by Facebook, was narrating
WhatsApp’s journey since being founded five
years ago.
Citing how useful the application has been to the
over-450 million subscribers around the globe,
Mr. Koum singled out Ghana as a country that is
using the product in a way he and Brian Acton
— the other Co-founder — never envisaged
when they established the application.
According to him, though he had learnt of
several uses of the service from across the
globe, mails he had from Ghana that the
university students are using the WhatsApp
messenger to hold discussions with their
lecturers, and even compare notes among
themselves in a group, left him astounded.
Mr. Koum added that such application of his
messenger, particularly, shows how important
and indispensable the service has been since it
was established.
On the future of the messenger, Mr. Koum said
Whatsapp intends to introduce voice over its
platform by summer as already being executed
by BBM talk, Kakao talk, Viber etc. This means
that with a simple data connection, WhatsApp
users may be able to place phone calls to each
other at minimal cost.
Already, this announcement has triggered
apprehension among some industry analysts
who are wondering how this will impact on
mobile operators’ revenue generation from voice
services.
However, CEO of Millicom International Cellular
S.A., Hans-Holger Albrecht, said operators are
indeed preparing adequately these
developments — and are excited about the fact
that these Gong Jianzhong innovations or OTT
(Over-the-top) players are also increasing data
usage of mobile subscribers, and operators are
aware voice will become free in the long-term.
“So there is a dire need to grow infrastructure
with the world requiring about US$1.5trillion to
meet the upcoming demand of data by 2020
with the introduction of budget (low-cost) US$50
smartphones.
Data from the country’s sector regulator,
National Communications Authority, indicated
that the number of mobile Internet subscribers
reached the 10million mark last year, a figure it
described as “average”.
The data market, which is considered as the
next frontier for network operators, grew by
19.5 percent last year from 8.6 million access
lines in January to 10.3 million at the end of
December — putting the rate of data
penetration at almost 40% in a population of 26
million.
